Named for Navy Commander William Lewis Herndon, the Town of Herndon was once a major rail stop and the heart of Northern Virginia's dairy farming country. Now home to numerous technology companies and the Center for Innovative Technology, Herndon offers a striking juxtaposition of new and old. Notable attractions include the Herndon Depot Museum, Frying Pan Farm Park and Herndon Centennial Golf Course. The exceedingly popular Herndon Festival is held annually in Historic Downtown Herndon.
